2009 NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships

Welcome to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association wrestling microsite. Each year this site will host pertinent information on the State Tournament including schedule, results, photos and travel accommodations.

The 2009 high school wrestling state tournament will be held at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY on Friday, Februay 27th and Saturday, February 28th. The 2009 tournament will return to a Friday-Saturday format. The tournament is sponsored in part by Worldwide Sport Supply, Jostens, CSEA, Holiday Inn, NY 529 Plan and the Marines.

The 2009 tournament, now in its sixth year of a two-division format, will follow a similar schedule to last year’s event held at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. The upcoming tournament will be the second year that an additional 120 wrestlers will fill the byes in the brackets. Overall, the wrestling championships will see 520 student-athletes from approximately 400 schools participate from each of 11 sections, along with qualifiers from the New York City Public School Athletic League (PSAL) and the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA).
